According to a recent notice published by National Law University, Delhi for the examination of All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), it has been declared that there are 110 seats for which students will be selected on the basis of merit in AILET. But, 505 of the total seats are reserved for the residents of Delhi.

According to NLU, Delhi, only the candidates, who have passed or going to pass the qualifying examination from a recognized school, board or college that is located within the National Capital Territory of Delhi will be eligible to apply for the reserved seats. And also in case of distance education students, it is necessary for the examination centre or the study centre to be located within NCT, Delhi to be eligible to apply for the reserved seats.

The present statistics is showing that only 15% of the present undergraduate students are from Delhi and in case of postgraduate the number is 56%.

Let’s look at the other NLUs of India in case of domicile reservation.

NLSIU, Bangalore to have 25% reservation

NUJS to have 30% reservation

NALSAR, Hyderabad currently have 20% reservation

NLU, Odisha have 25% reservation

NLU, Jodhpur currently do not have any reservation, though it proposed for a reservation of 25% in the year 2018.

The law society is assuming that the quality of legal profession will be decreased for the large number of reservation.
