As the Joint Entrance Exam, JEE main is approaching, the preparations of the student for the exam are at full swing. Although there is no confirmed update yet, still there are rumours regarding the postponement of the exam due to the menacing corona outbreak.
As it seems until now, there will not be any postponement of the examination due to the recent circumstances. The national level entrance exam, JEE main is one of the most important exams for the students aiming to pursue engineering and thus, time of quarantine is a significant opportunity for them to carry out focused preparation.
Candidates who qualify this examination are offered undergraduate B.tech courses in prestigious institutes like NITs, IITs, and CFTIS in India, on the basis of their ranks.
JEE main is the first round of the entrance exam. The top 2.5 lakh candidates who qualify this fulfill the eligibility criteria to appear for JEE Advanced and get admission in IITs. Around 11,47,125 students will take the exam this year with 1603 colleges across India accepting students who qualify the JEE Main exam in 2020.
Students who have appeared for the January 2020 round of JEE main can also fill the applications and appear for the April round of exam.
The examination is scheduled to be conducted on April 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th. An online, computer-based exam is scheduled to be held on April 11th.
This year there have been multiple changes in the process of form filling, fees structure and even the pattern of examination. The portals for Form filling, fee submission, and application form correction have been closed by the official website of Mains on the 16th of March, 2020.
Admit cards of the students will be available for downloading on the official website of JEE Mains on the 20th of March. The three-hour examination is scheduled in two shifts, the morning shift from 9.30 am to 12.30 p.m and afternoon shift, from 2.30 p.m to 5.30 p.m on the given dates.
It is mandatory for the students to carry their photo ID along with the admit card to the examination centre to be able to sit for the examination.On March 5th, the NTA announced a new provision for the students with benchmark disabilities or physical limitations to write.
The students will be provided with an additional one hour time period in the examination in the condition of provision of a certificate from the official medical authorities (the Chief Medical officer/ civil surgeon/ medical superintendent of government health).
The National Testing Agency, NTA announced a change in the pattern of the exam for 2020 and a brochure with all the required details for the new pattern of the paper has also been released.
There are two separate exams conducted in the JEE main. One is for the engineering aspirants and the other for admission in architecture (B.arch) and planning (B.plan) courses. In the prior pattern, the engineering paper consisted of multiple-choice questions as well as numerical ability based questions.
According to the new pattern, the JEE Main paper for engineering will now have three separate sections of Physics, Chemistry, and Maths with each section having equal weightage- 20 multiple choice questions with four answer options in each question, and 5 numerical questions in each section.
Each section will have 25 questions each, 75 questions in total. Each correct answer for multiple-choice questions will be marked 4 marks each and 1 mark will be deducted in every wrong answer.
The numerical ability section will have no negative marking scheme and 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer. The JEE Main paper B.tech will be of 300 marks in total.
The B.arch and B.plan papers were the same before the change in the pattern. Now, there will be two separate papers for both.
The JEE Main paper for B.Arch
The Maths section will have 20 MCQ questions and 5 numerical questions. The section for aptitude test will have 50 multiple choice questions and the drawing test will have 2 questions.
It will carry questions on Maths and aptitude and will have a different section with multiple-choice questions on planning. The pattern of this paper is similar to that of the above. 20 MCQs for Maths, 5 Numerical questions, and 50 multiple choice questions for aptitude with the only change in the last section of the paper.
Instead of the drawing section, the B.plan paper will comprise of 25 questions for planning which will include a written passage with a similar marking scheme as the above paper.
The B.Arch and B.Plan paper will be of 400 marks in total.

Hall and knight- Higher Algerba
Chemisty– Organic Chemistry by Morrison and Boyd
Inorganic chemistry by J.D. Lee
The cutoff of the examination is determined by various factors like the previous year’s cutoff, the total number of students appearing (which is lower this year than the number of students who appeared for the exam last year), availability of seats and the difficulty level of the exam.
Answer keys for each question of B.tech paper will be available on the official website of the exam in the last week of April and the answer keys for B.Plan will be available by the 2nd week of May.
Students will have an option to challenge the answer keys only by paying Rs 1000 per question. The results of the JEE Main exam, 2020 are to be declared on 30th April 2020 and the NTA results will be announced by the third week of May 2020. There will be two categories of the rank lists- All India Rank and Category Rank.
