Job Seekers vs Job Creators – which one are YOU?

Digitization has changed the game in the last decade and more so in the last 6 months. The world has seen and learnt how to use technology for business, leisure and entertainment. From ordering groceries online to working remotely with multiple companies across the globe, the internet has created new paths for employers and employees.

With the pandemic, the employment situation in India is very different from what it was. For eg. IT firms that used to hire lacs of graduates have now reduced intake drastically.

What does this mean for job seekers?

How does one make a living in such a scenario?

Like we always say, there is a solution. It is the time to transition. Throughout history, whenever there has been change, we have evolved. From being job seekers that are looking to do a monotonous job every day, it is time to shift gears and become a job creator. If you don’t know what these terms are and how this can be done, stick with us and we’ll find out.

Who is a Job Seeker?

As the name suggests, job seekers are those who are looking for employment. They are generally hoping to work with companies that can use their knowledge and expertise for their growth and development.

Who is a Job Creator?

Anyone who is making new business and paid work opportunities for others can be considered to be a job creator. They are generally entrepreneurs who have a vision which can be actualised through the help of talented and passionate people.

Which one should you be?

If you are graduating anytime soon, it would be interesting to note that India produces around 37 million graduates every year. Are their enough job opportunities for all these people? Definitely not.
The industrial and technological era has led to the automation of many tasks, thereby reducing the number of jobs available. That does not mean that young graduates can keep waiting in serendipity for a job at some point. It is important to hustle and create jobs, for yourself as well as for others.

Being a job creator can set you apart, give you the freedom to explore your area of interest as a business as well be independent.

Qualities of a Job Creator

There are certain qualities that are common between job creators and as we plan to make the shift from a job seeker’s profile to a job giver’s, nurturing and acquiring these qualities can help accelerate the process.

1. Resilient

First and foremost, any new generation entrepreneurs in India have to be resilient. Nothing comes easy but that should not deter you from moving towards your goal. No journey is without ups and downs but the motivation to tackle situations lies within oneself. Job creators know that challenges are many but their inner strength and commitment to their goal overshadows the problems on the way.

2. Knowledgeable

It is critical to be aware of your market, target audience and sector. Being a job creator requires you to be knowledgeable of the industry you are stepping into, the competitors, scope of growth, etc. Taking the plunge without thorough understanding can leave you high and dry, and your business / enterprise drowning.

3. Good at People Management

When you are transitioning to being a job creator, it is important to recognize that you will have to deal with many people on a daily basis. Delegating jobs, offering leaves, motivating and encouraging them to grow, changing path if necessary and much more is expected of you. Good people management skills can attract the right talent and eventually make your efforts a success.

4. Takes Advice and Support

While it is one thing to be your own boss, it is equally important to take advice and support from those who are experienced and experts. Having a mentor who can guide you through rough waters and help you grow your enterprise from a seed into a sapling is imperative. As a job giver, you will need help getting past the honeymoon stage and making your business long-lasting.

5. Sound Financial Planner

Whether you start off with a humble investment or a big investor putting in the big bucks, you need to be a sound financial planner. Tight management of finances and clarity in planning is critical for any business. Money matters turn ugly fast and a clear structure will make it very easy in the long run.

If you have been a job seeker all your life, it’s time to change with the times. The government’s New Education Policy 2020 has given a new lease of life to many. They are encouraging graduates to put on their thinking hats and find entrepreneurial solutions to long-standing problems.

Whether you are in a business or job environment currently, it’s time to reflect and analyze where you are headed. Looking ahead will help you chart out the right path for yourself.
