As demanding as it may sound, college students are always required to juggle their social life while dealing with the strenuous college life. May it be your family, friends or simply acquaintances that you have to attend to, the curriculum doesn’t stop. While shooting up all ‘A’s on your report card, it is also mandatory to be out and about in the world, to make sure you don’t slack off when it comes to your life outside the college.
Under such ambitious circumstances, the extra curricular activities that one can lean on would be only a few – is what one may think. In contrast to this notion, there’s a variety of debts and deals one can opt for that may benefit one’s academic career while helping one to make some major contacts in their field of work. The more people you know and contacts you make before you step out to actually work, the more are your chances of landing on an ideal job.
To begin with, internships are a great source to fuel your own pocket while sticking to the curriculum. Internships also help the students to gain the necessary practical knowledge in their choice of field that they may not gain in a closed classroom. One may come across websites such as LinkedIn that offer a range of internships to choose from, to which a student has to apply for in order to be hired. Paid or non-paid, an internship always helps to gain the professional experience in a particular field of work prior to the completion of one’s academic course.
Ironically often sidelined, it’s a fact that one may not be able to succeed in one’s academic and professional sphere of life while completely undermining one’s mental and physical well being. Students can enroll themselves up for a band of physical activities like sports, cultural events and programs – all of which take place in the college itself and may help the student to stand out amongst peers. One must also give attention to one’s mental well being, as a tired brain is an open door for sloppy work.
Planning a schedule to fit in both your academics and your activities may seem hard, but the key to success is efficient work strategy. A realistic work schedule with an off day may be ideal, but you may change the schedule as per the requirement. Sticking to a schedule religiously may sound like the way to go, but in reality, the most optimal way to work through the strain and stress is to rotate your schedule every now and then. Challenging times call in for consistent measures.
Pitch in for events and programs hosted by the college itself that get you to socialize. College Fests and academic competitions are a great way to do this. The key is to take as many experiences that the college has formulated for you and make the most of your time there.
